Before going deeper into the process of building a blog I will discuss some most important things to consider if you are going to start a Christian blog.
Starting a Christian blog is never going to be an easy task as it is not about your passion only.
But most importantly it’s about God and faith.
You can’t just write anything about God and religion, it has to be perfect.
You need to do a lot of research on the topics you are going to write about.
Here are the important things to consider before starting a Christian blog:
- First of all, you should know why you want to start a blog for Jesus.
- When you want to start a Christian blog, it has to be more than your writing and communication gift.
- Maybe you just want to share your knowledge about God or maybe it’s your hobby to teach people about God.
- You want to start a Christian blog to have a passive income source.
- It can be anything, but you should know it and be honest about that.
- You have to be honest about your doubts.
Like I said earlier, it’s not an easy task to write about God, Faith and Religion.
- Your words have to convey the message in the same way as it should be. And if you have some knowledge gap or doubts about something, either you should not include that in your writing or be honest about it.
- You need to be an expert at what you write in your blog.
Now, it is very important that you have complete knowledge about the topic, you will be writing about.
Faith and religion are not something that you can learn from someone.
It has to come from your inner self.
Now that we have discussed the important things to know before starting a Christian blog, we will dive into the actual process of building a blog.
Step 1: Find Your Niche
We already know that you want to start a Christian blog, but you need to identify a niche that you love and have passion about.
You can’t just write about everything.
The main reason people fail at their blogs is that they start writing about anything or everything.
If you want to be successful, you have been specific, you need to solve a specific problem or you need to target a specific set of audience.
There is no way that you will be writing about any topic and be successful at it.
Hence it is very important to find a niche that you are passionate about and can be successful at.
Now as you are starting a Christian blog, there are a lot of niches that you can write about.
But you need to choose a specific niche, which makes the readers feel that they have found the right Christian blog that they were searching for.
Here are some examples of Christian Blog niches:
- Christian Wedding
- Christian Social Media Help
- Christian Faith For Youngsters
- Christian Parenting
- Christian Counseling
There are a lot more topics that you can choose from, I have just given some examples.
Enter your keyword below and start researching the profitable keywords for your Christian blog.
Step 2: Select A Domain Name
A domain name is the address of your blog. People can reach your website by putting a domain name in the URL section or by selecting it from the search results.
For example, ebizopedia.com is a domain name for my website.
The basic principle behind selecting a domain name is that you select a domain name that describes the purpose of your website.
I teach people about the ways to earn money online, hence my domain name is ebizopedia.com
Now, this step is a bit more difficult.
Deciding on a blog name is too easy, but to find the same domain is really a tough task because the best ones are already taken.
Hence I would advise you to decide on at least a hundred words related to your niche and you will be able to find the domain for some of them.
Type in your preferred domain name below and register it on Bluehost right away.
Step 3: Setting Up Blog Hosting
Hosting is the building block of starting any kind of website.
Be it a portfolio, services, e-commerce, blog or any other kind of website, you need to set up hosting for that.
I am going to recommend setting up Bluehost as your blog hosting as it is really easy to use and gives value for money you are going to spend.
Bluehost even gives you a free domain name for one year and a free email hosting for creating the professional emails that will have your domain.
You can open bluehost.com on a separate browser window and follow along with the following steps to set up your blog hosting.
Once you are on the homepage you need to click on the Get Started button.
You will then be redirected to the next page where you are asked to choose your hosting plan.
Here is a screenshot of the same:
There are four hosting plans available; basic, plus, choice plus and pro.
We are going to choose basic as it is sufficient for running a WordPress blog.
Though you can choose any one of them depending on the features you need. You can also upgrade it later if you want. But I am going to stick to the basics for now.
If you wish you can also see the full comparison of all of the hosting plans here on this link https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help/141
After selecting a plan it will take you to the next screen where you need to create a new domain.
If you want you can also skip this step and create a domain name later on once you have set up your hosting account.
After selecting an option on this page, you will be directed to enter your account details and select the term of your hosting plan.
Once you have entered your account details, you need to choose the term of your hosting plan.
There are multiple plans available but the one which gives the best value for money is a 36 months plan.
After selecting the length of your hosting plan, uncheck everything under Package Extras.
Now the last step is to enter your card details and proceed with the payment.
Congrats! You have your Christian blog hosting setup ready now.
Step 4: Setting Up WordPress
So many blogging platforms are available out there, but we have to choose the best one for your blog.
The one we are going to choose is WordPress.
We are going to choose the latter as it is free to use and powers up the majority of the blogs on the internet.
It is also so easy to set up and you can scale it up for any kind of website.
The good thing about Bluehost is that it comes with WordPress pre-installed.
All you have to do is to configure it for your preferences.
After making the payment, you have to enter a password and click on the login button.
It will then ask you to choose a theme.
You can choose whatever theme you like.
All of the themes available on this page are free of cost.
Of course, you have the flexibility to choose a paid theme, but you can do it later as well.
Now that you have selected a theme for your blog, click on the Start building link.
It will take some time and take you to your WordPress dashboard.
On the next screen select Business and then it will ask you to create a Title and Description for your website.
You can write anything but keep it around your blog niche.
If you want you can change it later on, it is really easy to do.
Once you are done writing a blog title and description, you will be taken to the next page where you will be asked if you want to update your website with the bog articles.
Jump right into it.
Now you have the option to set your website homepage to show the latest blog posts or a static homepage.
You can choose whatever you want or change it later on.
The choice is completely yours.
Post that you will be asked if you want to have a contact page on your blog or not.
Now it’s completely up to you if you want it or not.
Some people keep it and some don’t.
If you have it on your blog, people can reach you through it, maybe for some information or maybe for some affiliate deals.
If you want you can also add it later to your website.
With that, you have configured WordPress for starting a blog.
Now, before we move any further, the most important thing that you need to do is verify your email address.
Open the email account that you used to create your Bluehost account, you must have received an email from them to verify your email address.
After verifying your email address, all you have to do is create an admin user in WordPress, so that you can log in to your WordPress dashboard.
Here are the steps to create a new user:
- Go to Users – Click on the Add New sub-menu.
- Create the username and password and select the account type as administrator
Now you can go to yourdomain.com/wp-admin with this admin account.
Step 5: Start Writing The Great Content.!
Now you can start writing blog posts on your website now.
Just consider the things I mentioned before the steps to start a Christian blog.
You will definitely be able to write the posts that people are going to love.
Though for the first post you can write about yourself, that will create a connection with your audience.
Here you can describe how you came to decide about starting a Christian blog, some things about your personal life and the reason why you started this blog.
Congratulations! Now you have started a Christian blog.
Now in order to build a good online presence for your blog, always write the content that people are going to love.
Make them stick to your blog.
Here are some tips, which will help you to create compelling posts.
Research about the blog topic before writing. You can do some keyword research to know what topic people love and always plan the content of your posts.
Create the headings that will compel people to fall in love with your article and make them read the entire article.
But also include the relevant content, else it isn’t going to work well.
You need to create a reason for people to subscribe to your blog.
Follow these simple steps and you are ready with your Christain blog in no time.
Always try to either solve a problem or help people to find what they are looking for.
While it is not all about being successful at establishing a Christian blog, this will help you create a good initial presence.
It will also help you to generate the initial traffic for your blog.
All the best for your future!
