How To Start a Wellness Blog? (Easy & Step-by-Step)

My purpose today is not to teach about the philosophies of success.

Whatever, I am going to discuss in this post about how to start a wellness blog, has come from my own experience.

Having a passion for something is a great thing to have.

It gives a lot of joy doing the things we love.

Working on something that we love, are passionate about and have the eagerness to learn, always results in unmatched success.

And if it's about starting a blog about your passion, you are going to achieve great success.

It will not only pay you in monetary terms but will also help you achieve a sense of self-esteem.

The most important thing before starting a blog is to identify a niche.

But you need to do it the right way.

Now, what is a niche?

A niche is nothing more than a strong urge to do something, at which you can start a career and be successful.

Furthermore, what can be better than your passion to be your niche?

Now, as you have already identified your passion i.e. health & wellness and wondering if you could start a blog on this niche, but do not know where to start.

Trust me you are at the right place.

I know, I know those are some really strong words I am using.

But these are not just words, that is what I have experienced.

How To Start a Wellness Blog (Step-by-Step)?

Now that you have discovered your passion and want to start the wellness blogging journey, some questions might be wondering around you like:

Where to start from?

What tools do I need?

What will I write?

How to reach the right audience?

Whether you are a newbie at technology, have no experience at starting a blog, I will share the process that will guarantee success.

All you have do is to follow these steps and you will get what you want.

So, without wasting any further time, let’s jump right into the process to start a wellness blog.

Step 1: Determining The Niche

You must be wondering why am I asking you to identify your niche again.

Isn’t it right that you have already decided on my niche?

I completely agree with you on this that you have already decided on your niche.

What if I say that it isn’t going to work that way?

If you just want to start your blog on wellness niche, I am afraid it is not going to work out well.

Why I am saying this is because wellness is too broad a niche.

You need to target a specific audience in the wellness niche.

You need to select a wellness topic that you love talking about.

Because people only love your blog if they can relate to it.

Once you start writing on a topic that you are expert at, people will start looking at your blog as a specialized blog on that.

I think it will be better explained with an example.

Here are some examples of some broad topics:

  • Weight loss for women
  • Weight loss for men
  • Healthy eating for good health
  • Nutritional plans for better digestion

Now, let's look at some examples of more targeted wellness topics:

  • Weight loss for women after Menopause
  • Weight loss tips for professional moms
  • Nutrition plans for working professionals
  • Healthy eating for elderly people

The wellness industry is already growing at fast speed.

It is true that wellness is one of the most profitable niches to start a blog.

However, if you are new then you will face a lot of difficulties to establish a good market position among already established bloggers.

Hence, it becomes really important to select a topic that you are good at, has less competition and can be specific.

If you are not new to internet marketing, probably you already know that there are a ton of free and paid tools available to find the profitable niche and keywords.

The Google Keyword Planner is 100% free and is the most preferred tool by most of the beginners and even experienced marketers.

I use it frequently for the keyword research for my blog and another tool that I like the most is Jaaxy.

Here's the small demo of how Jaaxy suggests you thousands of profitable keywords by just a click of a button.

Try your keyword below and start finding the most successful keywords for your first blog.

Step 2: Registering a Domain Name

Now that you have selected your blogging topic, the next step is to build your blog.

In order to build your blog, you need a few things.

In this step, you decide on a domain name for the blog and selecting a blogging platform (e.g. WordPress).

The first step in building your blog is to select a domain name for your blog.

A domain name is like having a name for your business.

For example, google.com is a domain name for Google, Facebook.com is a domain name for Facebook and ebizopedia.com is a domain name for my blog eBizoPedia.

You need to choose a domain name that is easy to remember and describes the purpose of your blog.

My domain name is ebizopedia.com, which is easy to remember and describes the purpose of my blog i.e. teaching the people about everything on starting an online business and be successful at it.

Once you have decided on a good domain name, then you need to purchase it.

But keep in mind that you decide on 3 – 5 potential domain names for your blog, as it might be possible that the domain name you have selected is already bought by someone.

In case if the domain name you have decided for your blog is already purchased by someone, then either it will unavailable or it will be available for a very higher price.

Don’t try to buy a domain name that is already purchased because it is going to be too costly.

Just find some other domain name and don’t overthink it, if you don’t want to waste so much time on selecting a domain name.

Enter your preferred domain name below and grab it before someone else does.

Selecting A Blogging Platform

Here comes the most important step in setting up a blog.

A blogging platform gives you the ability to manage your blog website.

There are a lot of blogging platforms available, some of them are free and some are subscription-based.

But we are going to select the one which is subscription less and easy to use.

WordPress is the blogging platform that we are going to select for your blog.

It is the most widely used blogging platform in the world. WordPress powers the majority of websites on the internet and it's really easy to set up.

Step 3: Setting Up a Hosting For Your Blog

Setting up a blog hosting is just like buying a plot for building a new house.

It is a space on the internet, where you can set up your blog.

Therefore, setting up a good blog hosting is really important.

Bluehost is a great choice to set up your blog, as it is recommended by WordPress since 2005, helps you save a lot and most importantly gives a free domain name for 1st year.

If you have not already, first you need to go to Bluehost.com.

Just make sure that you have opened Bluehost in a separate window so that you can follow along with this tutorial to set up your hosting.

After clicking on the get started button on the Bluehost homepage, you will be redirected to a list of pricing options.

It will look something like this:

Bluehost Pricing Plans

The next step is choosing a pricing plan for you.

While there are multiple options available for you but you don’t have to go any higher than the basic plan.

After you have selected your plan, you have to enter your new domain name.

You will have something like this on your screen:

Register Your Domain

Don’t worry, if you have not decided a domain name yet, you can click on “I’ll create my domain later >” and continue with these steps to set up your blog hosting.

Once you choose an option on this page, you need to fill in your details to create a new account.

Enter your personal details

After filling out your account details, you need to select your pricing plan in package information.

select pricing package

Firstly, you are required to select your account plan.

This option lets you select the length of your hosting plan.

The 36-month plan is giving the best value for money and I recommend it.

But you can choose any plan as per your preferences.

Most importantly Bluehost always gives you the 30-day money-back guarantee.

Now if you change your plan about your blog or anyhow you don’t like Bluehost (which you will like), then you have the option to cancel your hosting plan and get a refund.

After selecting your hosting plan, uncheck everything in the package extras section.

Package extras

You will have something like this on your browser window:

Now that you have filled your account details and have selected your hosting plan, all you have to do is fill in your payment details, accept the terms and conditions and push the submit button.

Enter credit card details

Congratulations! You have officially set up the building blocks for your wellness blog.

Now all you have to do is set up your blog.

Step 4: Setting Up Your Blogging Platform

If you have been following this tutorial, then Bluehost will have WordPress installed for you automatically.

All you have to do is configure it to your needs.

After making payment for your hosting plan, the next few steps will involve setting up your WordPress account details.

Make sure that you create a secure password for WordPress.

Once you have selected your password and clicked the log in button, you will be redirected to select a theme for your blog website.

All the themes available on this screen are free and you have the freedom to select any one of them.

Select a wordpress theme

You can also change the theme later on.

Now let’s continue with setting up your blog.

Post selecting a theme, Bluehost will begin setting up your WordPress dashboard.

Don’t worry it will not take long.

Once it is done, just click on Start building and it will take you to your WordPress dashboard.

After reaching your WordPress dashboard, you will see an option to select the kind of your website.

Here you need to click on the Business button.

WordPress Dashboard Bluehost

In the next step, you need to select a title and description for your website.

In case you want to skip and do it later you can do that.

Here is an example of this step.

Enter the site name and site description

After this step, you will be asked if you would like to update your website with blog posts. Why not?

From hereon, you will have the option to select if you would like to set your homepage to display the latest blog posts or have a static homepage.

You can choose either of them; you can always change it later on.

The next few steps will ask you if you want to have a contact page and connect to WordPress.com, you can skip those, as they are not the priority right now.

Before moving any further, the most important thing you need to do is verify the email address that you used to sign up for Bluehost.

You must have received an email from Bluehost with a Verification link.

You have 14 days to verify your account but I would recommend you do this as soon as possible.

Verify your email address

Now before moving any further, you need to know how you can log in to your hosting account and WordPress.

As of now, no admin account has been created, hence you need to always log in to your hosting account and from there you access the admin area of your blog by clicking on Log in to WordPress button.

The direct way to log in to your blog is by creating an admin account.

Once you are logged in to WordPress by following the above steps, you can follow the below steps to create an admin account:

You have to go to Users – Add New option on the WordPress menu on the left side.

Here you need to create a new account with a username that you will use to log in to WordPress.

After creating the account, go to All Users and delete the old admin user.

Now onwards you can use yourdomainname.com/wp-admin to log in to your WordPress account.

Step 5: Writing The Great Content

You have already come a long way and if you have set up your blog by following the above steps.

The next and final step is to start writing.

Start writing the posts on your blog now.

You can choose any topic to write about, but I recommend that you keep your first post about yourself that will create a personal connection with your readers.

Here in this post, you can talk about what made you start your blog, your past experiences, about you in person, what will you be writing about and just add some fun while writing it.

Congratulations! Finally, you have your own wellness blog.
